Handing Over Memorandum to SUHAKAM on Human Rights Abuses by the Police

A DAPSY delegation led by National Chairman Loke Siew Fook and Deputy Chairman Jenice Lee visited the SUHAKAM headquarters today to hand over a memorandum on the recent human rights abuses by the Royal Malaysian Police. Loke and Lee were joined by other National Executive Committee members as well as a few DAPSY members who were detained last week during candlelight vigils.

The delegation was greeted by SUHAKAM Commissioner Tan Sri Khoo Kay Kim, who was clearly disappointed to hear from DAPSY leaders what the police had done. Loke stressed that the arrests of ordinary citizens, activits and elected representatives since May 5 which now stands at 146 cases, are unjustified. He urged SUHAKAM to investigate and follow up on this matter and do whatever that is necessary to prevent such cases from resurfacing.
