Media statement by DAP Socialist Youth National Chairman and MP for Rasah Loke Siew Fook on Wednesday, 29 July 2009, in Petaling Jaya:
DAPSY fully supports Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA’s (GMI) anti-ISA rally which will be held on this Saturday. DAPSY leaders and members will also participate in the rally to call for the abolishment of the draconian, inhumane, and primitive Internal Security Act.
We also call upon all Malaysian Youths who wish for a more humane and more democratic Malaysia to join us on that day or at least help spread the word.
Media statement by DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) National Chairman and MP for Rasah Loke Siew Fook on Monday, 13 July 2009, at Petaling Jaya:
DAPSY is extremely disappointed with the arrests of Malaysia Youth and Students Democratic Movement (DEMA) leaders, Ong Jing Cheng and Yap Heng Lung, who entered the UM campus to meet their friends yesterday.
The police’s reason for arresting the student movement leaders – of attempted illegal assembly in campus, which was established after finding a copy of a road safety memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister on their motorcycle, is ridiculous. How can a road safety memorandum be used as ‘evidence’ of an imaginary illegal assembly is really beyond me.
DAPSY wishes to remind the government that whatever ‘liberal’ reforms on the economy will not conceal the multiple wounds which have been inflicted upon the democratic society.
Immediate Comment by the DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Secretariat on Thursday, 21 May 2009, in Petaling Jaya:
DAPSY is extremely disappointed and disgusted by the police’s latest round of ridiculous arrests tonight.
Sixteen people were arrested earlier tonight at the ‘Death of Democracy’ candlelight vigil organised by DAPSY’s Pandan division in front of DAPSY Deputy Chairperson and Teratai State Assemblyperson’s office. DAPSY leaders including Jenice Lee herself as well as DAPSY Political Education Director Ooi Leng Hang were among those arrested along with other DAPSY members and one member of the public.
Immediate Comment by the DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Secretariat on Tuesday, 19 May 2009, at Petaling Jaya:
DAPSY staunchly condemns the arrest of DAPSY leaders and members at a candlelight vigil in Seputeh earlier tonight.
DAPSY Deputy Chairperson and Teratai State Assemblyperson Jenice Lee and Serdang MP Teo Nie Ching are among those who were arrested right at the start of DAPSY Seputeh’s candlelight vigil on the death of democracy.
At a time when the people of Malaysia are mourning the accelerated death of democracy in this country fueled by the shameful events in Perak, the police has reinforced the idea that democracy does not exist in this country.
DAPSY demands the immediate release of all DAPSY leaders and members that were unjustly locked up tonight, and calls for the government to revive the democratic process to save the face of our nation that has been tainted by numerous scandals and instances of human rights abuse.
Immediate comment by DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) National Chairman and MP for Rasah Loke Siew Fook on 11 May 2009 (Monday) at Petaling Jaya:
DAPSY welcomes the judgement made by the Kuala Lumpur High Court today which rules that Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin is the legitimate Menteri Besar of Perak.
This judgement proves that Pakatan Rakyat’s efforts to uphold the rule of law and the democratic institution in this crisis have been vindicated.
The people of Perak have had an illegal government since February of this year and they must now be given their rightful chance to elect the legitimate government.
We hope the Sultan of Perak will respect the judgement of the KL high court today and respect the rights of the legitimate MB to request for the dissolution of the state assembly. Now that the court has made the judgement, the best way out of this crisis is to dissolve the state assembly and return the democratic rights to the people of Perak.
Immediate comment by the DAP Socialist Youth (DAPSY) Secretariat on 7 May 2009 (Thursday) at Petaling Jaya:
DAPSY Staunchly Condemns the Police’s Undemocratic Crackdown Operation in Ipoh Today
DAPSY is totally repulsed and agitated at the fallacious arrest of 3 DAPSY leaders and many DAPSY members in Ipoh this morning!
DAPSY Deputy Chairperson Jenice Lee was dragged into a car and handcuffed while having her meal and being interviewed by a reporter in a restaurant this morning. DAPSY National Executive Committee Members Teo Kok Seong and Khoo Poay Tiong were also dragged into a car and handcuffed when they arrived at the scene to find out what happened. All three of them are state assemblypersons (ADUN). Many other DAPSY members were also arrested.
What is shocking is the fact that they were not even participating in any gatherings or rallies at that time. They were merely wearing black clothes. What offence did they commit? Is wearing black a criminal offence?
DAPSY fully supports BERSIH’s ‘wear black on May 7’ campaign while strongly condemning the arrest of activist-academic Wong Chin Huat. DAPSY will mobilise members to organize a peaceful sit-in in front of the Perak state assembly tomorrow.
Full text of DAPSY Deputy Chairman Jenice Lee’s statement in Bahasa Melayu and Chinese:
